The new numismatic issue of the Order of Malta for the year 2026 was presented yesterday to the Grand Master, Fra’ John Dunlap. At the event, held at the Magistral Palace, the Grand Master received the first specimen of the new issue as a gift from the Receiver of the Common Treasure, Fra’ Francis J. Vassallo.
The issue is dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, commemorating the 800th anniversary of his death. The new coins feature the effigy of Fra’ John Dunlap on the obverse and an image of the Saint assisting a person in need on the reverse. The image is an original work by artist Noel Galea Bason.
Approved by the Sovereign Council of the Order through Decree No. 7947 of 23 June 2026, the numismatic series consists of six coins made of gold, silver, and bronze, denominated in Scudi, Tarì, and Grani, the Order’s historic currency.
