| Stamp description | Arranged in two se-tenant blocks joined horizontally, the four stamps depict two different works from the Art Collections of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta by the famous artist Canaletto – the pseudonym of Giovanni Antonio Canal (1697–1768), an Italian painter and engraver regarded as the leading exponent of Venetian vedutismo. The first se-tenant block, comprising two stamps, depicts the painting ‘Veduta del Canal Grande da Campo San Vio’, oil on canvas. The second se-tenant block, comprising the other two stamps, depicts the painting ‘Veduta del Canal Grande con Ponte di Rialto’, oil on canvas. In addition to the face value, each stamp bears the inscriptions “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” and “POSTE MAGISTRALI”, the Order’s coat of arms, and a three-line caption providing information on the works depicted. |
