The stamp depicts the candles lit by the participants – survivors, heads of state and world leaders – at the official commemoration ceremony held on 27 January in Auschwitz, Poland, at the former concentration camp, on the occasion of the ‘International Day of Remembrance’. Among the authorities present was the Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Fra’ John Dunlap, who paid homage to the victims of the atrocities perpetrated during the Second World War, reaffirming the Order of Malta’s role in building a society based on the values of dialogue and peace.

The stamp is completed by the legend ‘GIORNO DELLA MEMORIA 1945-2025’, the inscriptions ‘SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA’ and ‘POSTE MAGISTRALI’, the emblem of the Order’s activities, the caption ‘Auschwitz, 27 gennaio 2025, Commemorazione 80° anniversario liberazione del campo di concentramento’ and the face value ‘€ 3.00’.
