Stamp description

The four stamps each feature an image of the Church of the Grand Priory of Bohemia of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, founded in Prague in the 12th century, where it is still headquartered today.

Specifically, the € 1.30 stamp depicts the main entrance to the Church of the Grand Priory, adjacent to the Grand Priory Palace and dedicated to Our Lady Beneath the Chain, whose name refers to the chain used to lock the church gates at night.

The € 1.35 stamp depicts the church’s high altar.

The € 2.55 stamp depicts one of the side altars, the one dedicated to Saint Mary under the Chain.

The € 3.35 stamp features a detail of the crucifix on the high altar, located above the tabernacle.

Each stamp also features the inscriptions “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” “POSTE MAGISTRALI” the coat of arms of the Order’s activities, and the corresponding face value.
