| Stamp description | On the occasion of the 450th anniversary of his death in Venice in 1576, the Order of Malta honors Tiziano Vecellio, known simply as Titian, a leading figure of the Venetian School and one of Italy’s most famous painters. The stamp depicts the oil-on-canvas painting “Portrait of a Knight of Malta” which the artist created in 1515 and which is currently on display in Florence at the Uffizi Gallery. On the left side of the stamp, vertically, is the inscription “TIZIANO VECELLIO” and the years “1576” and “2026,” while at the bottom, the two-line caption reads, “Ritratto di cavaliere di Malta, 1515, Galleria degli Uffizi, Firenze” The stamp is completed by the inscriptions “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” and “POSTE MAGISTRALI,” the coat of arms of the Order, and the face value “€ 1.35.”
