The new 2022 numismatic issue

The Sovereign Military Order of Malta presents the new 2022 numismatic issue celebrating the Lieutenancy of the Grand Master of Fra’ John Dunlap, who has been in charge since June 14th of last year.

The coins are part of the “Hospitals of the Order” series, which in 2022 focuses on the representation of the 13th century Hospital of St. John of Acre. In the future issues, the series, which started in 2021 with the representation of the 11th century first hospital in Jerusalem, will continue to celebrate the hospitaller activity of the Order of Malta throughout its 900-year history, from its origins to the present day.

The 2022 numismatic series, decreed by the Sovereign Council of the Order with Decree No. 407 of November 7th, 2022, is expressed in Scudi, Tarì and Grani, the historical currency of the Order. It consists of 6 coins, in gold, silver and bronze, with the obverse side bearing the coat of arms of Fra’ John Dunlap, Lieutenant of the Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, and the reverse side features an artistic representation of the city of St. John of Acre and the ancient hospital of the Hospitaller Knights of the Order of St. John, present in this place until 1291, inspired by an ancient map of the city. The artistic creation was curated by sculptor Patrizio Daniele, who also created the 2021 issue.

The new collection will soon be available for purchase and can already be reserved. For information, please contact Poste Magistrali.
