On the afternoon of Wednesday 11 October the postal issue that the Order of Malta will put into circulation on 26 October to celebrate – together with Correos Panamá, the Republic of Panama‘s public postal operator – the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Central American country was presented.

The presentation took place during the official visit that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo, made to the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo.

An enlargement of the sheet that will be issued on 26 October was unveiled by the Receiver of the Common Treasure, Fabrizio Colonna, in the Sala degli Specchi of the Magistral Palace.

In his speech, Fabrizio Colonna underlined the particular importance of the work chosen as the subject of the three stamps that make up the sheet: the design, created by the Panamanian artist Aristides Ureña, is in fact full of symbolism linked both to the Order of Malta and to Panama, emphasising aspects of faith and hope that are at the basis of the Order’s action in all the countries where it operates.

After the presentation of the issue, the Receiver of the Common Treasure and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama jointly affixed the special postmark created on the occasion of the official visit of the Panamanian government authority to the Order of Malta.
