The stamp depicts Italian Red Cross volunteers engaged in rescuing the victims of the dramatic Morandi Bridge collapse in Genoa, Italy, on 14 August 2018. It also includes the logo adopted for the celebrations of the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Red Cross, which depicts the number “160”, incorporating the dates “1864” and “2024”, below which are the organisation’s emblem and the legend “Italian Red Cross” and “Ovunque per chiunque” (Everywhere for everyone). The stamp is completed by the inscriptions “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” and “POSTE MAGISTRALI”, the emblem of the Order’s activities, the name of the author of the design “T. TRINCA” and the face value “€ 1.25″.

The sheet of four stamps depicts the typical torches of the torchlight procession, which takes place every year in June between Solferino and Castiglione delle Stiviere in Northern Italy, in memory of the Battle of Solferino on 24 June 1859, from which Henry Dunant was inspired to create a voluntary movement to help the wounded at the battle sites. At the top is the logo adopted for the celebrations of the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Red Cross, as described above, below which are the organisation’s emblem, the aforementioned legend and the descriptive note “Fondata il 15 giugno 1864, con 1.000 sedi, 150.000 volontari, la Croce Rossa da 160 anni è costantemente al fianco della popolazione e delle istituzioni.” (founded on 15 June 1864, with 1,000 branches, 150,000 volunteers, the Red Cross has been constantly at the side of the population and institutions for 160 years). At the bottom there is the Order’s coat-of-arms next to the inscription “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA POSTE MAGISTRALI” and the QR Code to access the Italian Red Cross internet page presenting the joint issue. In the margins of the stamps are the inscriptions “EMISSIONE CONGIUNTA”, “ITALIA”, “SAN MARINO”, “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” and “CITTÀ DEL VATICANO”.
