Stamp description

The inside of the sheet depicts the work “Madonna in gloria tra i Santi Giovanni Battista e un Vescovo”, oil on canvas, painted by a follower of Giovanni Francesco Romanelli, 17th century, Viterbo, Intesa Sanpaolo Collection, Fondazione Carivit – on loan.

The three stamps inside the image outline, respectively, at the top, in the centre, the Blessed Virgin in Glory, at the bottom, on Her left, St. John the Baptist and at Her right a Holy Bishop. Each stamp bears the inscriptions “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” and “POSTE MAGISTRALI”, the emblem of the Order’s activities and the face value “€ 2.75”.

The sheet also bears, in the top centre on two lines, the headings “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” and “POSTE MAGISTRALI”, the Order’s coat of arms, on the left, and the Order’s activities coat of arms, on the right. In the bottom centre, on three lines, the inscription “Madonna in gloria tra i Santi Giovanni Battista e un Vescovo”, “Seguace di G. F. Romanelli (XVII secolo), Viterbo”, “Collezione Intesa Sanpaolo, Fondazione Carivit”.
