Stamp description | it depicts a portrait of Saint Teresa of Calcutta who, in profile and dressed in the habit of the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation founded by her in 1950, has her hand on a child’s shoulder. Around the halo is the legend “SANTA MADRE TERESA DI CALCUTTA”. The stamp is completed by the words “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” and “POSTE MAGISTRALI”, the coat of arms of the Order’s activities and the face value € 1.20. The sheet of four stamps bears, on the right, three sentences of Saint Teresa of Calcutta: “Dedicate almeno mezz’ora al giorno alla preghiera personale con Dio. La preghiera purificherà i vostri cuori e al tempo stesso vi darà luce e mezzi per trattare chiunque con amore e con rispetto” (Dedicate at least half an hour a day to personal prayer with God. Prayer will purify your hearts and at the same time give you light and the means to treat anyone with love and respect), “La vita è il più grande dono di Dio” (Life is God’s greatest gift) and “Il peccato più grande è la mancanza d’amore e di carità, la terribile indifferenza verso il nostro prossimo che giace sul bordo della strada, vittima dello sfruttamento, della corruzione, della miseria o della malattia” (The greatest evil is the lack of love and charity, the terrible indifference towards one’s neighbour who lives at the roadside, the victim of exploitation, corruption, poverty, and disease). On the top and bottom of the stamps are the inscriptions “MADRE TERESA DI CALCUTTA 1910-1997” and “IL FOGLIO DI QUATTRO FRANCOBOLLI VALE € 5.00”. Bottom right, under the Order of Malta’s coat of arms, are the inscriptions “SOVRANO MILITARE ORDINE DI MALTA” and “POSTE MAGISTRALI”. |
