Stamp description | Raffaello Sanzio: Le Virtu Teologali. Predella compartments of the Pala Baglioni commissioned in 1506 by Atalanta Baglioni for the family chapel in the church of San Francesco al Prato in Perugia. The altarpiece, executed in 1507, bears the artist’s signature (RAPHAEL URBINAS MDVII). Pinacoteca Vaticana (Vatican Museums). Raphael was commissioned by Atalanta Baglioni, a noblewoman from Perugia, to create the Pala Baglioni in the family chapel in the church of San Francesco al Prato, Perugia in memory of her son Grifonetto. The work, dated and signed by the artist (RAPHAEL URBINAS MDVII), now broken up, depicted the three Theological Virtues in a predella of three compartments. Charity was presumably in the centre, Hope on the left and Faith on the right. Each virtue was flanked by two winged cherubs bearing their iconographic features. The three panels are kept in the Pinacoteca Vaticana (Vatican Museums), Vatican City.
